Porsche is famous for multiplying the 911's variants to cover almost every conceivable niche. Chevrolet, in its longstanding tradition of going after the Europeans on their own terms, is applying a similar approach to the Corvette lineup. True to that spirit, Chevy surprised attendees at the IMSA 12 Hours of Sebring over the weekend by showing the world the new 2027 Corvette Grand Sport for the first time.

The Grand Sport joins the Stingray, Z06, E-Ray, ZR1, and ZR1X as the sixth distinct variant of the C8-generation Corvette. As anticipated, it wears the same widebody look as the performance models. The Grand Sport's signature fender hash marks return, though they've moved from the front to the rear fenders — a logical placement for a mid-engined car. Specifics are still forthcoming from Chevrolet, but the Z06-derived widebody bodywork suggests the Grand Sport will also wear the same broad tire footprint.

Chevy has confirmed a new engine under the hood of the C8 Grand Sport, pointing toward the brand's next-generation small-block V-8. There's also speculation that the hybrid all-wheel-drive E-Ray could be rebranded as the Grand Sport X, following the naming precedent established by the ZR1 and ZR1X.

Chevy rolled an undisguised Grand Sport out for a parade lap around Sebring alongside historic examples from the C2, C4, C6, and C7 generations — but treated it as a preview rather than a full reveal. The complete unveiling of the new Grand Sport is scheduled for Thursday, March 26.
